Books List #1

Okay so I just want to apologize in advance, I'm slightly out of it due to lack of sleep... Like I mentioned in my About Me, I recently got a kitten and it's hyper and stays up really late and gets up really early... I'm tired but I really wanted to post something... Anyway here's a list of books. Some I've read, some i haven't but have them and maybe a few I'm looking forward to getting. I read a variety of genres so hopefully you will find something you like. And FYI, this isn't list of popular books everyone knows about like Twilight and The Hunger Games. And almost all the summaries will be taken from the Barnes & Noble website.

Really anything by Meg Cabot is amazing!! If I mentioned  books by her instead of telling you to check her out there would be way to many books on here and you would probably get bored of me fairly quickly... So just to make it better for all of us I'll just simply tell you to go to this link: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/meg-cabot and her website is megcabot.com.

Story Of A Girl By Sara Zarr
When she is caught in the backseat of a car with her older brother's best friend - Deanna Lambert's teenage life is changed forever. Struggling to overcome the lasting repercussions and the stifling role of "school slut," she longs to escape a life defined by her past.
This an extremely well written book that sucks you in. This is one of my favorite books ever! I highly recommend you check it out :)

Detour For Emmy By Marilyn Reynolds
15-year-old Emmy is a bright student with a bad childhood. When she starts high school she meets Art who she falls hard and fast for. But Emmy gets pregnant and Art leaves her because she refuses to get an abortion. This book is part of the True-To-Life series.
Okay, that time I wrote my own summary. This book starts off kinda slow and bleh but mainly because Emmy is just starting high school and still a kid but it gets better as she quickly matures. Now given this book came out in 1993 and it's been on the the top ten banned books list in 2005 for sexual content it's slightly hard to find but you can get a new paperback for $8.85 on the Barnes & Noble website. but you can't fully go by banned books lists because look at Harry Potter, it was on the 2001 list for "anti-family, occult/Satanism, religious viewpoint, violence". But there are some vague sex scenes but in my opinion they aren't really that bad... But if you're reading it you already know what happens... And to give you an idea of how good it is in my opinion, I read it in like a week..

Ghostgirl series by Tonya Hurley
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
And if I should die before I awake,
I pray the popular attend my wake.
Charlotte Usher feels practically invisible at school, and then one day she really is invisible. Even worse: she's dead. And all because she choked on a gummy bear. But being dead doesn't stop Charlotte from wanting to be popular; it just makes her more creative about achieving her goal.
If you thought high school was a matter of life or death, wait till you see just how true that is. In this satirical, yet heartfelt novel, Hurley explores the invisibility we all feel at some times and the lengths we'll go to be seen.
Now this is my favorite series ever. It's funny and well pretty much all around amazing!! I can't help but give y'all my favorite quote:
"I can't figure out this whole 'unresolved issue' thing. Maybe I don't have one?" Charlotte asked Pam.
"Issues are like assholes,we've all got one," Pam snipped. ~Book 1, Ch. 6 Death and Dating, bottom of page 76, top of page 77. In my opinion this is a must read.

Kissed By An Angel series by Elizabeth Chandler
Ivy always believed in angels. When she meets Tristan, it's the love of a lifetime. When he dies, her heart is broken and her belief in angels vanishes. And without that belief, she is unable to feel Tristan's presence when he returns--as an angel. Now Ivy is in terrible danger, and Tristan is struggling to save her. How can he protect her if she's lost her faith in angels?
I recently finished Soulmates and I'll be starting Evercrossed soon. The only thing I didn't like was that one of my favorite characters was killed off... And the character isn't what you would expect by the way.  And if you've read the series let me know and I'll tell you somehow... But overall this is an amazing book!

Sleepless by Thomas Fahy
Emma Montgomery has been having gruesome nightmares. Even worse, when she wakes up, she isn't where she was when she fell asleep. And she's not only the only one. One by one the students of Saint Opportuna High start having the nightmares, and sleepwalking. And the next morning one of their classmates turns up dead.
Something is making them kill in their sleep. Emma and her friends need to band together, to keep themselves awake until they can figure our what's behind the murders—before anyone else dies.
Alright so I got this book recently and I can't wait to read it!! It looks really good.

The Unspoken by Thomas Fahy
Five years ago six children who lived with their families in Jacob Crawley's Divine Path religious cult escaped by burning the compound to the ground. They are reunited at the funeral of Jacob's son, Harold. Harold died of drowning — his worst fear — even though his body was found miles from any water. And it seems that each of the teens is marked for murder — as Crawley had predicted years earlier. Can any of these teens save themselves?
I got this book when I got Sleepless and it looks pretty good.

Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick
For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.
Okay so I haven't started this get but I read an excerpt and I have the first book. My best friend (who's like the sister I've never had) is pretty much obsessed and Patch is on her list of hottest fictional men or something like that.. And this is one of those books that she's bugged me to read (Twilght and Maximum Ride being others) and I never regret reading the books she recommends.

Girl v. Boy by Yvonne Collins and Sandy Rideout
All's not fair in love, war, and high school journalism
Sixteen-year-old Luisa Perez is not looking to win any awards for school spirit. In fact, she and her friends make it a point to avoid all activities considered "extra-curricular." So when her English teacher volunteers her to be an anonymous columnist for the school paper, Luisa's first impulse is to run. But, unlike her high-school dropout sister, Luisa does want to go to college-it may be her only ticket out of a life spent working at the cowboy-themed diner where she waitresses part time-and it would be nice to have something on her applications.
Her first assignment is to cover her high school's latest fundraiser, which pits the girls against the boys. Luisa will cover the events from the female POV, while another anonymous writer provides the male perspective-or, at least, that's how it begins. The two columnists soon find themselves engaged in an epic battle of the sexes-a battle that Luisa is determined to win. Just who does this guy think he is, encouraging his peers to act like Neanderthals with their girlfriends? And why can't Luisa shake the very sinking feeling that her new unidentified nemesis might also be her new boyfriend?
Okay so I found this book while getting a summary for another one earlier on this list and it looks interesting so I thought I'd go ahead and add it...

Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"—Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel—are just like ordinary kids—only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare—this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb—now her betrayed and greatest enemy—that her purpose is save the world—but can she?
After the mutant Erasers abduct the youngest member of their group, the "birdkids," who are the result of genetic experimentation, take off in pursuit and find themselves struggling to understand their own origins and purpose.
Alright so maybe you read this series, maybe you haven't, and if you haven't, you're missing out big time!!! This is an awesome book and lets face it: James Patterson is a god. I'm pretty sure he's off plotting his take over with fellow god Eric Kripke...And if you watch the awesomeness that is Supernatural, you know what I mean!

Halo series by Alexandra Adornetto
Three angels are sent down to bring good to the world: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. But she is the most human, and when she is romantically drawn to a mortal boy, the angels fear she will not be strong enough to save anyone—especially herself—from the Dark Forces.
Is love a great enough power against evil?
I have the first two books in this series and it looks like such a sweet, cute story :) I haven't started this series yet but I can't wait ^.^ But then again I'm pretty much obsessed with angels... There's just something about them that intrigues me... Oh and not to mention, the covers are so beautiful!!!! So even if you don't like the books I suggest getting them for the covers :) go look, now!!!! Ok, well not now, wait til I'm done with what was supposed to be a short simple list but I got a bit carried away and if you were to really know me it really wouldn't surprise you...

Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand
When Clara Gardner learns she's part angel, her entire life changes. She now has a purpose, a specific task she was put on this earth to accomplish, except she doesn't know what it is. Her visions of a raging forest fire and a mysterious boy lead her to a new high school in a new town but provide no clear instruction. As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between the boy in her vision and the boy in her life, between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. . . . When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Alright so I found this one while at Barnes & Noble and it caught my eye because the cover is pretty. Because in my opinion the whole "don't judge a book by it's cover" thing has a pretty fair amount of holes in it... I mean, let's be honest, how many times have you picked up a book because of the cover and it ends up being this amazing book? That was the case with a lot of the books on this list! I haven't read it yet but it looks really good...

House Of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire—that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
Alright so I've been hearing about this series for awhile now I've just never checked it out. Well this girl asked me a question about the Cherokee on tumblr (something about how she thought they were in Oklahoma and i went off on her... about how she should have payed attention during history class but little did I know at the time was that she lives no where near the US... woops... and now i feel all bad and i apologized to her and I don't know if she excepted it or not...) and I was like well, maybe I'll give it a shot. I haven't started it yet though. I'm part Cherokee by the way so that was why i got mad at her... Wesa means cat in the Cherokee language btw.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.
But Juliette has plans of her own.
After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever.
Okay well I found this book on the Cosmo Girl blog a few months ago and I still haven't gotten it >.< Anyway it looks like a pretty good book :)

Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Thirteen-year-old Bethany's parents have always been overprotective, but when they suddenly drop out of sight with no explanation, leaving her with an aunt she never knew existed, Bethany uncovers shocking secrets that make her question everything she thought she knew about herself and her family.
Well I haven't read this since I was ten but this is the book that got me hooked on suspense novels. It really does keeps you guessing til the end!!!

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
I found this on some website... I don't remember which.... The small excerpt I read was pretty good and well written and I can't wait to get it.

Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake
Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life.
I found this on the Barnes & Noble website while looking for another book. The cover looked awesome so I clicked on it XD hehe

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
Sooner or later, the dead catch up . . .
Judas Coyne was a collector. The bizarre, the uncanny, the grotesque. A cookbook for cannibals. A used hangman’s noose. A snuff film. Many of these objects were gifts from the black-clad fans who made his metal band a legend and made him rich.
But not all. When his personal assistant told him there was a ghost for sale on the Internet, Jude knew he had to have it for his private collection, didn’t think twice. He should have. Jude has spent a lifetime evading ghosts -- of an abusive father, of the bandmates he betrayed, of Anna, the suicidal girl he loved and abandoned. But this spirit is different. This one means to chase him to the edge of sanity.
His new acquisition -- delivered to his doorstep in a black heart-shaped box -- is the restless soul of Anna’s vengeful stepdaddy. Craddock McDermott swore he would settle with Jude for ruining his daughter’s life. Soon, everywhere Jude turns, Craddock is there: behind the bedroom door; in Jude’s restored vintage Mustang; outside his window; on his widescreen TV. Waiting -- with a gleaming razor blade on a chain dangling from one bony hand.
If ever there was a case of caveat emptor, this is it . . .
Once again I was looking for something else and this popped up and I still haven't gotten around to buying it...

The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.
Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.
Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.
I found this while browsing the teens section on barnesandnoble.com. (yeah.... it's my candy store...) I believe it's a series... This is the first book though.

Every Breath You Take: A True Story of Obsession, Revenge and Murder by Ann Rule
"If anything ever happens to me...
find Ann Rule and ask her to write my story."
In perhaps the first true-crime book written at the victim's request, Ann Rule untangles a web of lies and brutality that culminated in the murder of Sheila Blackthorne Bellush -- a woman Rule never met, but whose shocking story she now chronicles with compassion, exacting detail, and unvarnished candor. Although happily ensconced in a loving second marriage, and a new family of quadruplets, Sheila never truly escaped the vicious enslavement of her ex-husband, multi-millionaire Allen Blackthorne, a handsome charmer -- and a violent, controlling sociopath who subjected Sheila to unthinkable abuse in their marriage, and terrorized her for a decade after their divorce. When Sheila was slain in her home, in the presence of her four toddlers, authorities raced to link the crime to Blackthorne, the man who vowed to monitor Sheila's every move in his obsessive quest for power and revenge.
I had to add this given the fact that it all started in my hometown --well more like city...-- of San Antonio. It is an interesting story and I look forward to reading it.

Well this ended up being longer than I meant for it to be in the first place. But Summer is coming up and now you have a mighty fine list of books to keep you entertained!!!

At this time I would like to take a moment to thank those who are still with me after who knows how many books. I probably could have added a few more but then it would have never ended....

Bye til next time Y'all!
~Cassie
